The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, TRACE, confirmed the development in an update issued on Saturday, noting that the victim died at the hospital.

The information was contained in a report by the TRACE Unit Commander in Saapade, Cmdr Oridota P.O., after a post-accident visit to the facility on Saturday morning.

The agency’s spokesperson, Akinbiyi Babatunde, shared the report with our correspondent.

The report did not disclose the identity, age or gender of the deceased passenger.

According to the account, the hospital management informed the TRACE team of the passenger’s death during their visit.

The death brings a tragic end to an accident that initially left 13 people injured on Friday, with no fatality recorded in the agency’s first report.

The TRACE report stated, “In the course of embarking on post crash visit to OOUTH sagamu this morning, it was announced by the hospital management that the only passenger in critical condition that was taken to OOUTH has passed on.”

The accident involved a Mazda bus carrying 18 people. TRACE had earlier explained that the vehicle overturned after suffering a tyre burst and subsequently rammed into a concrete barrier along the Lagos-bound lane of the expressway.

The agency said the injured passengers comprised two men, eight women and three children. They were taken to three different hospitals, with one admitted to OOUTH, nine evacuated to Divine Hospital in Ogere and three taken to Isara General Hospital.
