Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has urged members of the Accord in the state to remain united and support candidates fielded by the party in the forthcoming National and State Assembly elections.

Adeleke made the call on Wednesday at a stakeholders’ forum in Osogbo, where party leaders and members reviewed preparations for the legislative elections.

The meeting, which was held behind closed doors, focused on strengthening party unity and addressing alleged anti-party activities among members.

In a communique issued after the meeting, the Osun Accord leadership warned members against supporting candidates of other political parties in the forthcoming elections.

The party said it had received reports alleging that some Accord members were backing candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Action Peoples Movement, APM, Allied Peoples Party, APP, and All Progressives Congress, APC.

It warned that members or leaders found sponsoring, supporting or working for candidates of other political parties would face disciplinary measures.

The stakeholders resolved that disagreements arising from the selection of legislative candidates should be addressed internally, stressing the need for members to unite behind candidates already fielded by the party.

The meeting also constituted a small committee to investigate constituencies where alleged anti-party activities had been reported and recommend appropriate measures.

The Accord leadership was directed to intensify monitoring across the state to identify members involved in anti-party activities and call them to order.

Addressing the stakeholders, Governor Adeleke expressed appreciation to party members for their support throughout what he described as a turbulent electioneering process.

“I am deeply grateful to our party members for their depth of loyalty and courageous disposition throughout the democratic struggle.

“I task us to support our party candidates in the forthcoming legislative elections. We must avoid anti-party activities. Severe sanction awaits any party member who works against the candidates of the party,” he said.

The governor also urged Accord candidates to engage all sections of the party, saying, “We must run an inclusive campaign. All shades of opinion must be mobilised for resounding success in future elections.”
