New York Mets fans miss Pete Alonso. They made that clear in his recent return to Citi Field with the Baltimore Orioles. While they may always cheer for Alonso — who signed with the Orioles during the offseason — they won’t be able to cheer for his team anymore… Right? Well, Alonso has a different opinion on the situation.
“I know it’s frowned upon or whatever, but you can always have a second team. You can always root for the Orioles, guys,” Alonso said in a message directed to Mets fans, via SNY Mets. “Go O’s. I mean, American League team… Separate (from the National League). If you want to have a secondary team, you can always root for the O’s.”
Perhaps if the Orioles were to reach the postseason Mets fans would pull for Alonso and Baltimore. New York is in last place in the National League East, so many Mets fans may be searching for a team to root for in October. However, the Orioles may also miss the playoffs.

The O’s are in last place in the American League East. They are still afloat in the AL Wild Card race, but Baltimore is three games back of the final position with only a couple of weeks remaining in the season.
Alonso, who has 35 home runs, an .859 OPS and a league-leading 100 RBI, will do everything he can to help the Orioles shock the American League and sneak into the postseason. One has to wonder if Mets fans will accept his invitation and begin cheering for the O’s to reach the playoffs.
