Coach Dan Lanning‘s Oregon Ducks football team is 3-2 on the season and facing a potential must-win for its playoff hopes with Brock Thomas battling Dylan Raiola for the right to start. Oregon leading receiver Evan Stewart’s injury status took a turn for the worse earlier this week leading up to a new distinction.

On3’s Pete Nakos shared the news with the game hours away in Eugene, Oregon.

“Oregon star WR Evan Stewart remains doubtful and is on track to miss Saturday night’s game,” Nakos said.

Stewart leads the Ducks with 27 catches for 352 yards on the season along with four touchdowns. He has 41 more receiving yards than his next closest teammate, Dakorien Moore, who also has four scores so far for coach Lanning’s team.

Quarterback play looms large whether Stewart is able to play or not. An insider made a huge prediction on the Thomas versus Raiola race ahead of the game. Raiola played two seasons with the Cornhuskers, compiling nearly 5,000 yards and over 50 touchdowns. Raiola said he left Lincoln, Nebraska to maximize his collegiate development, position himself for future success, and because of a difference in vision with Matt Rhule’s program.

Now, Stewart appears unlikely to start as the Ducks prepare to move forward without him, Dante Moore, and, potentially, Stewart. The Ducks’ usually explosive offensive might not be up to the task of winning a shootout against the Cornhuskers, but the defense has enough talent to pick up the slack. If Stewart can’t play, the Ducks will miss his production and dependability, but will do their best to move on in the meantime.
