One Piece's Monster Trio Is Back In A Big Way And The Series Will Never Be The Same
WARNING: SPOILERS FOR ONE PIECE CHAPTER #1197Throughout One Piece‘s long-running epic, Luffy’s Straw Hat crew has grown considerably in both power and in numbers, but its original monster trio has reinvigorated their standing with powers that will change the world. After the former Warlord Jinbe joined the crew and even characters like Nami and Usopp have become monsters in their own right, the crew has become less reliant on its original three powerhouses. But new upgrades have helped elevate Zoro and Sanji to the level of One Piece‘s most formidable fighters.
The One Piece series has introduced powerful characters capable of destroying entire islands and even some that have proved capable of living for hundreds of years. Increasingly broken Devil Fruit powers and further evolutions of the series’ Haki power system have grown to the point where only the most capable of Pirate Crews have been able to stay in the running in the race to claim the coveted One Piece treasure. But there is one power that’s helped push certain individuals far past others: Conqueror’s Haki.
While any character in the One Piece world is technically capable of learning how to manipulate Armament and Observation Haki, Conqueror’s Haki is a much rarer ability that only special individuals are capable of manifesting. It allows its users to weaponize their willpower to significantly power up their attacks and even damage untouchable and seemingly immortal foes. And now, there are three Straw Hat pirates who can use it.
The Straw Hat Pirates Have Become Worthy Kings
Luffy and arguably Zoro have been showing signs of being capable of using Conqueror’s Haki since One Piece‘s time skip. Sanji, on the other hand, has not shown such aptitude until his epic awakening in chapter . While it may seem overly convenient for some, Eiichiro Oda has brilliantly formulated the Straw Hat cook’s character arc that explains why Sanji hasn’t used Conqueror’s Haki in the past. It was because of his extremely low opinion of himself, but when he finally began to respect himself, his full potential was realized.
Zoro’s ridiculous levels of strength have helped him accomplish so many mind-blowing feats that he’s always been considered the strongest Straw Hat pirate next to his captain. Still, he’s now become even more of a powerhouse after learning how to control Conqueror’s Haki, a power that even Luffy has said is consistently flowing out of Zoro. After recalling advice from Zoro’s most likely final boss, Dracule Mihawk, about mastering that power by understanding his own sense of self, Zoro has joined Luffy as one of the few characters in One Piece’s world capable of using Conqueror’s Haki at will.
The Sword And Shield Of The Next Pirate King Has Been Forged

Pirate Emperor Straw Hat Luffy has been compared to several legendary figures, including the first pirate Joyboy and the Sun God Nika. His carefree attitude and infectious optimism have earned him both respect and those comparisons throughout the story. Ancient murals depicting world-changing battles of the past and prophesying some for the future have depicted a Warrior of Liberation resembling Luffy’s Gear 5 Nika transformation. They also included the inspirational hero equipped with a sword and shield, important tools that Luffy has now gained as of One Piece chapter .
As Sanji was familiarizing himself with the powers of his full potential, he went so far as to acknowledge Zoro’s skills by stating that he can be Luffy’s sword, while Sanji will become the shield. As Scopper Gaban made them realize, Zoro and Sanji would need to level their skills up and learn to control Conquerors Haki if they hope to assist their captain in his dream of becoming the next Pirate King. Now that they have done exactly that, the Monster Trio may have everything they need to beat the competition to become One Piece‘s most formidable Pirate Crew.
