One of Saints' remaining free agents signed with Sean Payton's Broncos

· · 2 min read

We’re halfway through the 2026 season, and almost every member of the 2025 New Orleans Saints team has found a new home. Of the Saints’ few remaining free agents, a couple had to wait until the regular season started to join a new squad — like Ugo Amadi. The veteran defensive back spent most of last year on the practice squad in New Orleans, occasionally coming up to cover punts and kickoffs on special teams. Now he’s the latest member of the black and gold to join Sean Payton on the Denver Broncos.

It’s actually his second stint in as many weeks. Amadi quietly signed with Denver’s practice squad back on Oct. 9, only to let him go last week. That turned out to be a temporary procedural move, as Amadi has now returned amid a flurry of roster moves.

The 29-year old Oregon product has bounced around the league quite a bit; he was originally a fourth-round draft pick by the Seattle Seahawks in 2019 before getting traded to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022. After a cameo appearance with the Tennessee Titans, Amadi won a Super Bowl ring on the Kansas City Chiefs practice squad and came to New Orleans in 2023. He probably played more snaps on defense than anyone was comfortable with but held his own on special teams, appearing in 35 games over three years. He tried out at New York Giants training camp this summer before landing in Denver midseason.

So which other Saints free agents are still out on the market? If Taysom Hill wanted to play football again, you’d think he would have signed with a team by now. Instead, he appears to be settling into a quiet retirement. Cornerback Michael Davis, 31, ended the 2025 season on injured reserve before briefly attempting a comeback with New Orleans in the preseason. Wide receiver Dante Pettis was a late pickup by the San Francisco 49ers team that drafted him but was released in October with an injury settlement. Other wide receivers who ended the year with the Saints after injuries decimated the depth chart, like Ronnie Bell and Samori Toure, are currently without a team but have attended tryouts around the league in recent weeks. We’ll see if they land with a new squad as the regular season marches on.
