One midfielder comes off the list as Manchester City search for another midfielder

· · 2 min read

With Manchester City on the verge of signing Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, part of City’s midfield rebuild looks to be complete. City remain in the market for another midfielder but who they will sign alongside Elliot Anderson remains to be seen. Borussia Dortmund midfielder and German international Felix Nmecha does look to be a player who could be suited to a role in Manchester City’s midfield. Nmecha knows what life at City is about given he spent time in Manchester City’s academy before making his name in the Bundesliga. However, a new report states that Nmecha isn’t a City target so the German international isn’t in line to return to Manchester City.

Felix Nmecha isn’t set to return to Manchester City.

Simon Bajkowski has reported for the Manchester Evening News that Manchester City have no interest in signing Felix Nmecha from Borussia Dortmund this summer. It was reported by Graeme Bailey for TeamTalk that City, alongside Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal had been approached by intermediaries about the possibility of signing Felix Nmecha from Borussia Dortmund. Based on Simon Bajkowski’s report City have ruled themselves out of the market for the German international.

Manchester City’s hunt for another midfielder is set to continue.

Felix Nmecha can now be taken off the board as a potential target for the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders. Nmecha’s playing style and physical attributes do seem suited to playing in the Premier League. Nmecha’s performances for Germany at the ongoing World Cup did suggest that he had the game to slot into City’s midfield. Based off of Simon Bajkowski’s most recent report, Nmecha will not be returning to the FA Cup and Carabao Cup holders.

Instead, Manchester City’s search for another midfielder will continue. Newcastle United midfielder Sandro Tonali and Lille’s Moroccan midfield sensation Ayyoub Bouaddi seem to be Manchester City’s most likely targets. It remains to be seen if City will land either players or if Hugo Viana has another midfielder in mind.

Felix Nmecha is not in line for a return to Manchester City this summer. Nmecha is a quality midfielder in his own right. However, it seems that City have their eyes elsewhere in their hunt for a second midfielder to sign this summer.
