Oklahoma gets key players back in latest availability report

· · 2 min read

One of the biggest storylines for the Oklahoma Sooners this season has been the number of injuries the team has faced. For the third year in a row, the Sooners have had a plethora of injuries to key players.

That is no different against the Florida Gators on Saturday. In the latest availability report, the Sooners have eight players listed as out, one as doubtful, one as questionable and two as probable. The Sooners will be without Ryan Fodje, Cole Sullivan and Jacobe Johnson for sure, as well as likely being without Eddy Pierre-Louis.

Peyton Bowen is listed as questionable, so they could be without their star safety. On the bright side, Eli Bowen, Jake Maikkula, Jer’Michael Carter and Rocky Beers are all back this week. The Sooners may also get Elijah Thomas back.

The injury situation remains a big concern for Oklahoma as it heads into one of its toughest road environments of the season. Losing a potential difference-maker like Peyton Bowen would be a major blow to the Sooners’ secondary, while the absences along the offensive and defensive lines could also test the team’s depth. With so many players unavailable, Oklahoma will need contributions from its next group of players to keep Florida’s offense in check.

Still, the return of several players provides a boost for a team that has struggled to stay healthy throughout the season. Getting Eli, Maikkula, Carter and Beers back gives the Sooners more options, and Thomas could provide another welcome addition if he is cleared to play. Oklahoma will need every available contribution as it looks to overcome its injury challenges and leave Gainesville with a win.
