Ohio State football at Iowa updates, injuries, storylines

After a blowout win over Illinois, Ohio State football heads to Kinnick Stadium on Oct. 3 to face Iowa.

Ohio State wide receiver Jeremiah Smith had a career day during the 42-19 victory Sept. 28. He posted 12 receptions for 217 yards and four touchdowns, all career highs. Quarterback Julian Sayin had a successful day as well, completing 27 of 36 passes for 367 yards and four passing touchdowns. He also ran for a career-high 29 rushing yards and a touchdown.

The Buckeyes will have a more difficult challenge on offense when facing the Hawkeyes, however. Iowa owns the No. 1 scoring defense in the nation through four games.

Iowa also had a dramatic win last week against Michigan. Playing in Ann Arbor, Iowa quarterback Hank Brown threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Reece Vander Zee as time expired, giving the Hawkeyes a walk-off 20-19 victory.

The win propelled Iowa to 14th in the US LBM Coaches Poll and the Associated Press Poll. After beating Illinois, Ohio State jumped up slightly to No. 6 in the Coaches Poll and No. 5 in the AP Poll.

For the 2026 season, Big Ten schools will submit four availability reports per week for conference games, beginning three days before a contest and concluding with a gameday report, according to the Big Ten website. Institutions will submit reports by 8 p.m. three days, two days, and one day before scheduled kickoff. A final gameday submission will be due two hours before kickoff.

For Saturday games, the first report is due on Wednesdays at 8 p.m.
