OAU beats BUK to emerge winner of the maiden SSK moot court competition
High-Stakes Oral Advocacy Before Real Judges
While the presiding panel of judges averred that BUK technically won the merits of the specific case being argued, OAU outscored their opponents on overall delivery, procedural compliance, and courtroom etiquette to emerge as the overall tournament champions. OAU’s lead counsel, Ase Hephzibah Adiamologi, was adjudged the Best Advocate of the entire national competition.
Reflecting on the firm’s motivation for launching the competition, a founding partner of Streamsowers & Köhn, Mr Etigwe Uwa (SAN), noted that the exercise aims to replicate the mentorship they received in their early careers.
“Putting law students in a realistic court setting where they advocate cases before real judges inspires and motivates them to strive for professional excellence,” he stated.
Concurrently, SSK Partners Chinasa Unaegbunam (SAN) and Vincent Owhor commended the exceptional quality displayed by the participants.
They emphasised that the tournament serves as a crucial incubator where aspiring advocates learn to analyse complex legal issues under real pressure, proving that the future of the Nigerian legal profession remains exceptionally bright.
