NWSL Matchweek 15: Top goals and saves

This week brought us four (4!) 5+ goal games! Check out the top three goals and saves in terms of the difference between their post-shot expected goals (PSxG) and expected goals (xG).

Basically, these are the goals where the player taking the shot added the most value just on shot quality and the saves where the keeper was best able to navigate this unexpected extra shot quality.
vs. Houston Dash (0.91 PSxG on 0.20 xG)

Former Chelsea teammates combine for the first time in black and sky blue as Kerr’s goal sends Gotham FC to the top of the table.
vs. Portland Thorns (0.90 PSxG on 0.29 xG)

Del Fava is left wide open on a set piece and she makes sure Portland is punished for it as she puts her team up 5-1.

Ijeh has a tiny deflection that ensures some brilliant team play ends with the ball in the back of the net.

Hogan makes her third start between the sticks this season count as she has some quick reflexes to make an impressive double save.
vs. San Diego Wave (0.50 PSxG on 0.02 xG)

Melanie Barcenas has scored from that distance before, but MacIver makes sure it doesn’t happen against her team.

Amelia White makes a fool of an Angel City defender but Anderson stays sharp enough to deny the rookie a goal and to keep the scores level.
