The Denver Nuggets were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs last season. Furthermore, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander won the MVP award for the second straight season. Those two facts caused there to be dialogue, for the first time in years, about whether Nikola Jokic is or isn’t still the best player in the NBA.

While the Nuggets are only partaking in preseason games as of now, the three-time MVP is quickly reminding everyone that he is special and is, in fact, the best player in the world. In a 133-128 victory over the Chicago Bulls, Jokic dropped yet another triple-double. The Serbian had 22 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists, and he did so in just three quarters of play.

Video game-like numbers have become the norm for Jokic. He ranks second all-time with 198 triple-doubles, and he will almost surely pass former teammate Russell Westbrook’s 209 mark this season. Jokic is so great because he can do it all on the basketball court. The big-man born in Somber, Serbia, is one of the best scorers, rebounders, and assist men in basketball. In fact, he led the NBA in both of the latter two statistical categories last season, something that had never been done before in the history of the NBA.

After losing Peyton Watson and Tim Hardaway Jr. in the offseason, the Nuggets will again need Jokic to carry a heavy statistical load this season. So far in the preseason, Jokic is proving he is up for any task.
