NSUK, Meyana Bio-Energy Sign MoU to Boost Power, Energy Research

Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has entered into a strategic partnership with Meyana Bio-Energy Company to strengthen research, innovation and capacity development in Nigeria’s power and energy sector.

The partnership was formalised through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday, July 27, 2026, as part of the university’s efforts to deepen collaboration between academia and industry.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, the Vice-Chancellor of NSUK, Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman, described the agreement as a significant step towards equipping students with practical knowledge and innovative skills needed to address the country’s evolving energy challenges.

She said the collaboration aligns with the university’s vision of promoting research, innovation, skills acquisition and sustainable national development through strategic partnerships.

Professor Liman commended the management of Meyana Bio-Energy Company for its confidence in the institution, assuring that the university would fully commit to the successful implementation of the agreement.

According to her, the partnership will enhance research and innovation, strengthen capacity building and provide students and staff with opportunities to gain practical experience in the power and energy sector.

The Vice-Chancellor also reaffirmed the university’s commitment to engaging industry stakeholders in developing sustainable solutions to Nigeria’s energy needs while expressing appreciation to Meyana Bio-Energy Company for its support towards the institution’s growth.

In his remarks, the Chief Executive Officer of Meyana Bio-Energy Company, Dr. Mer Best, praised the university’s management for embracing the partnership and commended Professor Liman’s leadership and commitment to academic excellence.

Dr. Best said the Memorandum of Understanding would create opportunities for grant funding, improve students’ access to modern equipment, attract investment and stimulate innovative solutions to national challenges.

He stressed the need for stronger collaboration among government, academic institutions and industry players to develop sustainable power and energy systems capable of driving Nigeria’s socio-economic development.

The event concluded with the formal signing of the Memorandum of Understanding by representatives of both organisations, symbolising their shared commitment to advancing research, innovation and human capacity development in the country’s power and energy sector.
