NSCDC handles over 100 gender-related cases in Kwara within six months

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Kwara State Command, said it handled more than 100 gender-related cases in the first half of 2026, including securing a life imprisonment sentence against a convicted sexual offender between January and June.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ayoola Shola, said the command’s Gender Unit recorded 36 domestic violence cases during the period, with 12 currently undergoing mediation.

The command also handled 19 child custody disputes, noting that 15 had been resolved while four remained pending.

The commandant further revealed that the command received 38 cases of child abandonment, adding that six had been successfully resolved, while investigations into the remaining cases were ongoing to ensure the welfare of the affected children.

On kidnapping-related incidents, the statement said nine abduction cases were reported to the command within the review period, adding that four victims had been rescued and reunited with their families through the intervention of NSCDC operatives.

“Nine abduction cases were reported during the period, and four victims have since been reunited with their families through the timely intervention of the Corps,” he said.

The command also disclosed that eight cases involving rape, sexual assault and child molestation were currently before competent courts.
