Not Alvarez: Arsenal urged to sign world class attacker to become title winners again

Arsenal have been urged to make one final blockbuster move for Victor Osimhen, with Manchester United legend Dwight Yorke claiming the Nigerian striker could make the Gunners overwhelming favourites to retain the Premier League title.

Mikel Arteta’s side have already strengthened significantly this summer, but speculation around another elite striker has continued into deadline day.

Osimhen remains one of the biggest names linked, although any deal with Galatasaray would be extremely difficult because of both the transfer fee and the striker’s enormous salary.

Arsenal have been told to sign Osimhen

Speaking to Reviant, as reported by Metro, Yorke explained why he believes Osimhen could transform Arsenal’s attack.

‘Victor Osimhen to Arsenal would be huge,’ Yorke told Reviant. ‘That would really cement them as favourites.

‘I was actually looking at some clips today and he’s all action, isn’t he? All arms and legs, a little bit unorthodox, but he gets the job done.

‘He’s not the most elegant player you will ever see, but you will find him very awkward to play against. He’ll be a bit of a nightmare for these defenders because he’s a little bit old-fashioned in that sense.

‘He’s six-foot, he’s lanky, he’s decent in the air, he takes his opportunities, and he works hard. As a centre-forward, if you have those attributes, defenders are not going to look forward to playing against him.

‘If that were to happen, then I would say Arsenal would definitely run away with it.’

Sky Sports reported that Arsenal have discussed Osimhen’s availability with Galatasaray during the summer.

However, finances remain the biggest obstacle.

Yorke’s excitement is understandable.

Osimhen offers a different type of threat to Arsenal’s existing forwards. He attacks space relentlessly, dominates defenders physically and has the penalty-box instinct to turn half-chances into goals.

That could make Arsenal even harder to contain, especially in tight matches where Arteta’s side occasionally need a more direct route to goal.

The problem is cost. Galatasaray paid €75m to sign Osimhen permanently in 2025, while his contract runs until 2029 and includes huge wages.

Arsenal would therefore need to commit an extraordinary amount of money for a player they do not strictly need.

Still, deadline-day opportunities can change quickly.

If Galatasaray unexpectedly become open to negotiations and Osimhen lowers his salary expectations, Arsenal should at least explore it.
