'No fake energy,' UCLA HC Chesney has kept it real with QB Iamaleava

The UCLA Bruins football team participated in media day on Wednesday and three of the Bruins‘ best players were interviewed by Mike Hall on the Big Ten Network.

Among those players was starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava, the junior who transferred to Westwood from Tennessee last summer.

After asking each player what feels different at UCLA this season under Bob Chesney compared to a year ago with DeShaun Foster, Hall followed up with Iamaleava about what his first one-on-one conversation with his new head coach was like.

“We talked about the future for me,” Iamaleava recalled. “I really want to be secure and trusting in them to prepare me for the next level, so those are the first things that we touched up on. You can just feel, when I first met coach Ches, he’s been the same person since then. I definitely felt no fake energy. He was just great to hang around.”

With Chesney at the helm and Iamaleava under center, the Bruins appear poised for a bounce-back season this fall.
