No. 36 prospect Asa Burch commits to Notre Dame over Ohio State and Michigan
Ranked by the Rivals300 as the nation’s No. 6 edge and No. 36 prospect overall, the 6-foot-5, 220-pound Burch chose to play for head coach Marcus Freeman and the Irish over Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, the Hurricanes, Michigan State and many others.
“The opportunity outside of football and the tradition to be great!” Burch has said. “The environment is absolutely amazing and one of a kind. What excites me the most is the tradition behind Notre Dame and I love the way they play defense.”
Burch’s father Alfie, who played at Michigan, loves everything Notre Dame has in place for his son.
“Well, 100 percent we made his recruitment and what schools move to the forefront first of all about non-football influence of the university alumni system,” the elder Burch said on Friday morning. “Second I want Asa to experience the brotherhood that I experienced at the University of Michigan the continuity that we all still share 35 to 40 years later all of my teammates still regard for each other and we support all of our family endeavors and we see that at Notre Dame.”
Alfie Burch spoke highly about the Notre Dame program last month.
“We’ve had great talks with the staff at the University of Notre Dame,” the elder Burch has said. “Asa has built a great relationship with Coach DJ Bryant and Coach (Charlie) Partridge and has spent valuable time talking with Coach Marcus Freeman in person and via FaceTime and phone calls. Notre Dame has been most consistent and has shown the most commitment to Asa.”
