Nile university hosts Gambian education minister on NUC study tour to deepen academic ties

He commended Nigeria for its long-standing role as a cornerstone partner in developing The Gambia’s university capacity.

“It is always good to come back to our roots because Nigeria has been a trusted partner in our educational journey for many years. Most of the faculty members in our universities are Nigerians, and the founding Vice-Chancellor of the University of The Gambia was also Nigerian. That reflects the depth of the relationship our two countries have built over the years.”

Strategic Infrastructure Tour and Digital Innovation

A central feature of the official visit was an extensive guided tour of Nile University’s campus facilities and academic infrastructure.

The Gambian delegation examined the university’s integrated approach to executive education, technology-enabled pedagogy, and student entrepreneurship ecosystems.

Key highlights of the facility tour included:

• State-of-the-Art Virtual Reality (VR) Suite: An immersive learning hub utilised for executive education, business simulation, leadership training, and complex decision-making scenarios.
• Digital Learning Infrastructure: Advanced technological systems designed to support flexible, hybrid learning and global research access.
• Student Innovation Hubs: Specialised centres focused on equipping undergraduates with practical skills, startup development support, and workplace readiness tools.

Strategic MoUs and Future Educational Collaboration

Beyond facility inspections, the engagement served as a platform for high-level discussions on expanding academic quality assurance, boosting research capabilities, and leveraging technology to prepare graduates for evolving global market demands.

Before their departure, the Gambian delegation formally solicited structured bilateral cooperation with Nile University and the broader Nigerian higher education sector.

Hon. Prof. Gomez indicated that his ministry will forward actionable proposals for Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) to partner with Nile University.

The proposed partnerships aim to support the newly established University of Science, Innovation, and Technology in The Gambia, as well as strengthen institutional ties with the University of The Gambia, drawing on Nile University’s proven expertise in private tertiary education management and technical innovation.
