Nigeria’s Power Sector: Lack of coordination slows reliable electricity supply – Tegbe

The Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, said a lack of coordination had slowed the delivery of reliable electricity supply to Nigerians.

The Minister made this disclosure on Monday at the announcement of the Off-Grid Stakeholder Coordination in Abuja.

According to the Minister, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Adelabu, the fragmentation of the country’s power sector is a major hindrance to rapid electrification.

“Fragmentation is the quiet tax every under-coordinated sector pays: in duplicated effort, missed investment opportunities, and slower delivery of power to the Nigerians who need it most,” he said.

On his part, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Abba Aliyu, highlighted the need for a centralised platform to help the industry identify existing projects and allocate resources efficiently.

“As Nigeria’s off-grid energy sector continues to expand in scale, investment, and institutional participation, there is an increasing need to establish an Off-Grid Sector Coordination Secretariat that will provide a structured platform for alignment across government institutions, development partners, private-sector operators, and other stakeholders,” he stated.
