Nigeria vs Egypt: Super Falcons face make-or-break WAFCON 2026 clash

Nigeria would be hoping to qualify for the knockouts of the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, when they play Egypt on Wednesday.

The Super Falcons came into the tournament as defending champions.

However, Justine Madugu’s ladies lost 3-2 to Malawi in their Group C opener, before beating Zambia 1-0.

This leaves the group wide open ahead of the final group fixtures today.

Malawi currently lead the way with six points, while Zambia and Nigeria have three apiece.

Egypt are as good as eliminated, as they lost their two matches.

Nigeria occupy second position behind only Malawi, as their superior head-to-head record over Zambia is the tiebreaker with both teams locked on three points.

This is despite Zambia having a goal difference of +5 compared to Nigeria’s 0.

However, if Zambia beat Malawi and Nigeria beat Egypt, then the Copper Queens, Super Falcons and Scorchers will all have six points.

In that case, matches between all three of them would come into consideration when determining who had the best head-to-head record.
