The Winnipeg Jets are 4-1-1 on the season and have been winning despite Connor Hellebuyck not being in the lineup. Hellebuyck has been suspended by the Jets for not reporting to training camp following his trade request.

As the Jets continue to thrive without their Vezina Trophy-winning netminder, and Hellebuyck continues to be away from the team, there is another suitor emerging for the goaltender, per Frank Seravalli of Sportsnet.

“Count the Los Angeles Kings among teams who have recently kicked the tires on Connor Hellebuyck,” Friedman wrote.

The Kings could become aggressive in trading for Hellebuyck. They are 0-3-2 this year, which places them seventh in the Pacific Division, but also the only team without a win in the division. Goaltending has been an issue so far. Darcy Kuemper has played in four games, with a 4.53 goals-against average and an .847 save percentage. He has a 0-3-1 record. Meanwhile, Anton Forsberg has played in two games with a 2.94 goals-against average and an .853 save percentage. He is 0-0-1. Their combined stats place them tied for 29th in goals-against average and 31st in save percentage.

“While the depth of these trade talks is difficult to qualify, the belief is Kings GM Ken Holland at the very least has ascertained an understanding on the price required to pry the three-time Vezina Trophy winner out of the prairies. And yes, the Kings have received affirmation that Hellebuyck apparently would accept a trade to LA,” Friedman added.

There is also a sense of urgency for the Kings. The Kings have one of the oldest rosters in the NHL, and if they continue to struggle, trading away valuable draft picks may no longer make sense.

Regardless, the Kings will have competition for Hellebuyck, as other rivals in the division have expressed interest, among other teams trying to gauge the cost of the goaltender.
