The Los Angeles Chargers are rejecting trade approaches despite their 0-5 start, holding off on a potential roster sell-off.

The Chargers’ winless start has put their trade deadline plans under scrutiny as they prepare to visit the undefeated Kansas City Chiefs. A bye follows Sunday’s divisional matchup, with the November 10 deadline approaching.

The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero wrote Saturday in his SubStack newsletter, The Sweep, that general manager Joe Hortiz has maintained a consistent response to other executives.

“Teams are calling Chargers GM Joe Hortiz, who has told multiple GMs the same thing about any potential trade offers: We’re not interested.”

The Chargers’ struggles under Jim Harbaugh follow consecutive playoff appearances. Los Angeles finished 11-6 in each of its first two seasons under Harbaugh and Hortiz, providing context for the organization’s reluctance to sell.

Pelissero additionally shared the team still believes a turnaround is possible, although its approach could change before the deadline.

This season has brought an offensive transition, with Mike McDaniel replacing Greg Roman as coordinator. Injuries across the offensive line have complicated the adjustment and increased the pressure on quarterback Justin Herbert.

Herbert shares the NFL lead with seven interceptions. His 70.2 passer rating ranks ahead of only Miami Dolphins quarterback Malik Willis among qualifying passers.

The running game has also struggled. Of the Chargers’ 76 first-down rushing attempts, 37 gained two yards or less.

The defense has improved in recent weeks, and the Chargers’ past three losses came by one score. Harbaugh remains under contract through 2028, and Pelissero reported no signs of major changes under discussion ahead of the bye.

Los Angeles heads east seeking its first win against the unbeaten Kansas City Chiefs, while Hortiz continues to turn away potential trade offers.
