New York Giants to sign free-agent linebacker with immediate impact in mind

New York Giants are set to sign free-agent linebacker Malik Harrison to their practice squad, with the veteran looking to contribute early.

Harrison has seven years of NFL experience and has recorded 215 career tackles while making 43 starts.

Malik Harrison joins Giants practice squad

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported the move on Thursday, revealing that Harrison is joining the Giants after being released by the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.

“Free agent LB Malik Harrison is signing with the Giants practice squad with the goal to contribute early, per sources. The seven-year vet, released by Pittsburgh on Sunday, has 215 career tackles and 43 starts.”

Harrison was selected by the Baltimore Ravens in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft after earning All-Big Ten honors at Ohio State in 2019.

He spent his first five NFL seasons with the Ravens before leaving for a free-agent deal with the Steelers. During his time in Baltimore, Harrison started eight games each in 2022 and 2023 before making seven starts in 2024.

Harrison signed a two-year, $10 million contract with the Steelers before the 2025 season. In his lone season in Pittsburgh, he played in 11 games and made nine starts.

He now joins the Giants’ practice squad following his release from Pittsburgh, with the goal of contributing early in New York.

The move gives Harrison another opportunity to continue his NFL career, while the Giants add a seven-year veteran to their linebacker group.
