New Seahawks owner opens the door to special Seattle return for Jody Allen
The Seattle Seahawks will officially be under new ownership for next Wednesday’s season-opener against the New England Patriots.
In a repeat of the Super Bowl from earlier in the year, the Seahawks will be unveiling their champions banner and their new owners.
However, the game at Lumen Field could also provide Jody Allen with one final opportunity to bid farewell to the fans.
The Allen family enjoyed an extremely successful stint in the Pacific Northwest, having guided the Seahawks to two Super Bowl victories.
Although the Khoslas are now officially in place as the new owners, Vinod Khosla has opened the door to Allen making a return just days after the takeover was confirmed.
New Seattle Seahawks owners offer Jody Allen opportunity to return
The sale of the Seahawks broke the record for an NFL franchise takeover, with a reported value in excess of $9 billion.
New owners will always provide some concerns among the supporters, but the Khoslas are keen to make a positive start by offering Allen an opportunity to return to Lumen Field.
Questioned who would be raising the 12 man flag at Lumen Field on Wednesday ahead of the game against the Patriots, Khosla opened it up to Allen.
‘I’d love to have Jody do it,’ he replied to a fan on X.
The tradition of raising the 12 man flag ahead of the game is a special honour in Seattle, with only select people being given the privilege.
Allen has done this on previous occasions, but in one final hurrah, the former Seahawks owner would be able to receive the reception she deserves for her tenure in Seattle.
What is also interesting is the new approach being taken by the Khoslas, with the family sharing their thoughts with the fans via social media.
Although not necessarily a negative on Allen’s behalf, fans are already hearing a much more public voice from the new owners than they ever did with the Allens.
