New Paydirt Pete bobblehead celebrates UTEP move to Mountain West

The new-look Paydirt Pete has a new-look bobblehead.

The National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum unveiled an official bobblehead of Paydirt Pete to celebrate UTEP’s admission to the Mountain West Conference and the mascot’s redesign, both of which occurred on July 1.

The limited-edition bobbleheads, each individually numbered to 2,026, are available online for preorder from the National Bobblehead Hall of Fame and Museum site for $35, plus $8 for shipping. They are expected to ship in December.

“In a running position on an orange circular base with ‘UTEP Miners’ across the front, the modernized Paydirt Pete bobblehead is wearing his signature wide-brimmed miner hat and overalls adorned with UTEP across the chest. Sporting a beard and mustache, he is also holding his trusty pickaxe,” the news release noted.

This bobblehead will take into account the changes unveiled for Paydirt Pete on July 1, which it says were a modernization of the “retro” logo the Miners used in the 1980s.

“We wanted to give Paydirt Pete a fresh look while not straying too far from the vintage mark that our fans love,” UTEP Athletics Director Jim Senter said.
