New Browns DE Jared Verse taking on vocal leadership role already: ‘Earn’ it

When it comes to on-field production, no one has come close to matching former Cleveland Browns DE Myles Garrett. Last year, obviously, Garrett set the single-season sack record despite the Browns winning just three games. New Cleveland DE Jared Verse made it clear that he has no plans to fill Garrett’s (literally) smaller shoes for the Browns defense, but the young, talented defensive end could provide something different than Garrett as well: Vocal leadership.

Garrett did spend time teaching and helping his teammates, but his personality was never one to scream, demand, or call teammates on the carpet. Verse has shown talent on the field, and is now showing how different he is as a leader than the man he is replacing:

Verse was not content with his teammates getting tired or just finishing out mandatory minicamp. Calling on his peers to “earn” their month off before training camp kicks off.

While Verse’s value will be 99% about what he is able to produce on the field, it will be interesting how his vocal leadership style impacts his teammates, many of whom are used to the best player being a quiet worker.
