Nets' Josh Minott discusses potential role for the 2026-27 NBA season
NEW YORK — Brooklyn Nets forward Josh Minott is one of the players on the Nets that could be primed for a solid opportunity to show what he can do on a daily basis. Brooklyn brought Minott back this offseason after having him for just the second half of the 2025-26 campaign and he explained what he expects his role for this season to be for this roster.
“It’s nothing new to me in terms of my last two teams, it’s more just defensive intensity. Being able to be a guy that can come in and disrupt the game defensively, crashing the basket, hitting open shots, being ready for any opportunity,” Minott said after Monday’s practice. The Nets open their preseason slate on Tuesday at the Charlotte Hornets and that will be Minott’s first chance to show how involved he’ll be on both ends of the floor.
“One thing I’ve learned in my four years going on five, you’re never settled in. I would never get complacent, you can never be complacent. I feel like that’s advice to everybody in any profession,” Minott continued. After the Nets added forward Julius Randle to the roster via trade this summer, it seems like Minott will be coming off the bench, assuming that he’s part of head coach Jordi Fernandez’s rotation.
Minott, 23, is coming off a 2025-26 season in which he averaged 10.8 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game while shooting 49.1% from the field and 39.5% from behind the three-point line in 16 games played. Minott played 19.3 minutes per game last season so it’s fair to assume that he’ll have a similar role this year, but Brooklyn also added guard Keon Ellis and center Mo Wagner this offseason.
“Josh, he’s put a lot of work and effort through the summer and now in training camp and I expect good things to happen,” Fernandez said when asked for his insight into what Minott’s role could be this season. Tuesday will give Nets fans their first glimpse at what this team will look like in general, but especially for a player in Minott that is willing to do whatever it takes to make an impact.
