Netflix's 4-Part Thriller With A New Season On The Way Hits 1.1 Billion Minutes Viewed
Netflix‘s popular thriller series that is already confirmed to return for at least one more season has hit over 1 billion minutes viewed recently. Netflix’s roster of thriller shows continues to impress, with the genre making for a powerful ally to the streamer’s binge model, resulting in many hits over the years. Taking Netflix’s slate of TV shows released in 2026 alone so far, it is easy to see how the thriller genre is one of the streamer’s most popular, with new hits like His & Hers, I Will Find You, Unfamiliar, Below, Jo Nesbo’s Detective Hole, Something Very Bad Is Going to Happen, and more.
Many Netflix thriller series have joined the streaming service’s roster of multi-season shows, with some of those returning in 2026 with new seasons. That includes both Netflix thrillers that have already aired new episodes this year, such as The Night Agent, The Lincoln Lawyer, and Black Doves, and those that are coming to the streamer before the year’s end, such as The Hunting Wives. Being part of the former group, The Diplomat‘s new season has already come and gone, and this exciting new batch of episodes managed to hit a massive viewership milestone for the returning Netflix political thriller series.
The Diplomat Delivers Netflix A Dominant Streaming Hit In Its Return
According to new data from Nielsen, The Diplomat drew 1.194 billion minutes watched for the week of October 19 to October 25. That timeframe accounts for only part of the show’s first full week of availability on Netflix, since The Diplomat season 4 released all of its eight episodes on the streaming service on October 15. This sum was enough to put it at overall when it came to all TV shows on streaming for that respective week. The Diplomat only lost to another series that recently became available on Netflix, the supernatural horror show From, at 1.649 billion minutes watched.

Two other Netflix series make company to The Diplomat on the list, with the reality show Love Is Blind at 8th with 780 million minutes watched on the streamer for the week of October 19-25, and the rom-com Nobody Wants This closing the top 10 in the last spot with 725 million minutes viewed. Interestingly, both shows at the top of the overall streaming chart, The Diplomat and From, have the same 30 episodes available on Netflix. At the time of writing, The Diplomat is no longer on Netflix’s Top 10 TV Shows chart in the United States.
The Show’s Future Has Already Been Decided
While The Diplomat has since fallen off the streamer’s charts, the Netflix political thriller series still proved itself a smash hit once again in the first few weeks following season 4’s release on the platform. This was enough for Netflix to officially announce that The Diplomat has been renewed for season 5, bringing back Keri Russell as Kate Wyler, Rufus Sewell as Hal, and the rest of the gang. Given the hit series’ annual release schedule, with seasons 2 through 4 releasing in October, The Diplomat season 5 is expected to drop on Netflix in October 2027, though that has yet to be confirmed.
