Ahead of the release of the 2026 examination results, NECO also held its 2025 Annual Staff Productivity Awards, where outstanding members of staff and high-performing candidates were recognised.

Wushishi said the awards were introduced to acknowledge employees and candidates who demonstrated commitment, hard work and strong performance during the year.

He also highlighted the council’s ability to conduct examinations despite security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping and sit-at-home orders.

According to the registrar, NECO recorded progress in the conduct of its internal examinations, timely release of results, promotion exercises without disputes and the development of information and communication technology software.

The annual awards covered staff across the council’s zones, states and headquarters, as well as candidates who excelled in NECO examinations.

Wushishi further disclosed that 55 former employees who retired in 2025 received certificates of service during the event.

The awards were presented across different categories, including recognition for retirees and outstanding staff, as well as awards for the best state coordinator, best driver and top-performing candidates.

Speaking on behalf of the Niger State Government, the Director-General of Student Affairs, Bello Sheriff, congratulated the recipients and encouraged NECO to maintain its record of achievements.

Among the award recipients were Akai Kuyet, who was recognised as the best female candidate in the SSCE category, and Felix Emenike, who emerged as the best male candidate.

In the National Gifted Examination category, Ezeudu Akachukwu was recognised as the best male candidate, while Ubochi Nancy emerged as the best female candidate.
