Nebraska football defensive back excited about change to 4-2-5 defense

Nebraska football defensive back Jeremiah Charles was asked about what he liked about Rob Aurich’s defense. He gave an answer that should excite Husker fans.

Charles was Matt Rhule’s second commitment ever as a coach of the Huskers. He joined the program in 2023 and has bounced around the field during his tenure here. Now, he is looking to become a big part of the secondary and a player the coaching staff can rely on.

Multiple players have come out in support of Aurich’s new defensive scheme over the past week. Of course, results of the plays on the field will determine the effectiveness of the defense. Nevertheless, the support from players for Aurich and his schemes is certainly encouraging to hear.

Aurich’s hire brings about a philosophical shift for the defense, as he runs a 4-2-5. The Huskers have run a 3-3-5 scheme under Matt Rhule over the past three seasons.

Charles talked about the new defensive scheme under defensive coordinator Rob Aurich. At the very least, it sounds a bit easier than last year.

The Huskers struggled defensively last year, and a scheme in which everyone feels comfortable would be a positive step in the right direction.
