· · 1 min read

A new report states that Nebraska’s women’s flag football team will begin competing in 2027. Mitch Sherman of The Athletic reports that the team will move the debut season up a year after previously stating that the opening season would begin during the 2027-28 academic year.

The program will be coached by Liz Sowers, a former five-time national champion coach at Ottawa University. The associate head coach will be her sister, Katie Sowers.

The team will play its games at Barbara Hibner Field. This is the current home of the Huskers’ soccer program.

Nebraska is the only school from a Power Four conference to add a women’s flag football team. Collegiate Flag Football reports that the Big 12 is exploring the addition of flag football as soon as 2028.
