Nature of Denis Zakaria’s injury revealed

AS Monaco captain Denis Zakaria (29) was forced to withdraw from the Switzerland squad for the upcoming international break on Monday. L’Équipe have now revealed the nature of the midfielder’s injury.

 The midfielder was forced off during Les Monégasques win over RC Lens on Friday night. The captain was withdrawn in the 76th minute of the encounter and was replaced by academy product Pape Cabral. Speaking in a mixed zone interview attended by Get French Football News post-match, the Swiss international downplayed the issue, but nonetheless confirmed that he was substituted due to a physical issue. “But it’s okay,” he assured.

However, he was not able to honour his selection for Switzerland. L’Équipe understands that the former Juventus and Chelsea player was suffering from adductor pain several days before the Lens game, and Friday’s encounter only aggravated the injury. He will therefore spend the international break in La Turbie. Zakaria will hope to be fit to face Toulouse FC on 10th October.
