The Washington Nationals have made a notable roster move before Sunday’s series finale against the New York Yankees

The NL East club announced that first baseman Abimelec Ortiz was called up from Triple-A Rochester.

Ortiz will take the roster spot of left-hander Matt Krook, who was designated for assignment, per Washington’s announcement.

The 24-year-old was acquired from the Texas Rangers in the trade that sent MacKenzie Gore to Texas.

Ortiz, born in Puerto Rico, will be making his Major League debut today. He is batting third as the Nationals’ DH.

Krook made his MLB debut in 2023 with the Yankees.
