It was reported in February that left-handed pitcher Shane Drohan was in the middle of taking his physical at Spring Training when he found out he was being traded from the Boston Red Sox to the Milwaukee Brewers.

Drohan detailed the experience to MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic in an article published Friday.

“Drohan, 27, had just finished his EKG when Sox pitching coach Andrew Bailey intercepted him. Bailey asked if he was almost done with his physical. Drohan said not yet. Bailey told him he needed to see manager Alex Cora and assistant general manager Eddie Romero, right away,” Rosenthal wrote. “‘As I’m walking down the hallway, I’m like, I either got traded or this is the fastest anyone has been optioned back to minor-league camp,’ Drohan said.”

The 27-year-old made his MLB debut with the Brewers on April 8 and has made his last four appearances as a starter.

Drohan is 3-2 with a 3.40 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 47 strikeouts across 47 2/3 innings pitched this season covering 15 games (five starts).

The southpaw revealed to Rosenthal a conversation he had with one Red Sox coach following the trade.

“After getting the news, Drohan circulated through the clubhouse, saying his goodbyes. Dan DeLucia, the Red Sox Triple-A pitching coach, approached him and asked, ‘OK, today for your bullpen, what are we working on?'” Rosenthal wrote. “‘We’re not working on anything, man,’ Drohan replied. ‘I got traded.'”
