“N500,000 minimum wage causes inflation” — Sowore tackles N30m Senators’ pay

· · 1 min read

The 2027 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, AAC, Omoyele Sowore, has questioned claims that a N500,000 minimum wage for Nigerian workers could fuel inflation, challenging the N30 million monthly pay senators allegedly receive.

Sowore raised the issue in a post on his official X handle, where he also questioned the salaries of state governors.

“If a minimum wage of ₦500,000 per worker will cause inflation, why are Senators in Nigeria’s NASS earning ₦30 million per month and always asking for more?” Sowore asked.

He also questioned why governors should not stick to their stated monthly salaries, alleging that they take money from public funds.

“Why aren’t governors sticking to their monthly salary, which is ₦700,000 per month, instead of constantly stealing from the public treasury?” he added.
