N2.3 trillion campaign claim: Fabricated letter exposed campaign of disinformation against Gov Sani - Kaduna govt
The Kaduna State Government has dismissed as a deliberate fabrication a letter circulating on social media alleging that Governor Uba Sani approved and released N2.3 trillion for the flag-off of the All Progressives Congress (APC) 2027 presidential campaign in Kaduna, describing the document as fraudulent, misleading and a calculated attempt to undermine the Governor’s reputation for fiscal prudence and responsible governance.
In a statement issued by the Honourable Commissioner for Information and Culture, Malam Ahmed Maiyaki, the government described the purported letter, dated October 18, 2026, and titled “Notification for Preparations for the Grand Rally Flag Off,” as a figment of the imagination of its authors, riddled with inconsistencies that raise serious questions about its authenticity.
The letter, purportedly addressed by Governor Uba Sani to Senator Abdulazeez Yari, identified as Director-General of the APC Presidential Campaign Council, falsely claims that the Governor budgeted and released N2.3 trillion for the presidential campaign flag-off scheduled for Saturday, October 24, 2026.
Maiyaki pointed out that the entire 2026 Kaduna State budget stands at N985.92 billion, making the alleged N2.3 trillion expenditure more than twice the state’s annual budget. He described the claim as financially implausible and unsupported by any authentic appropriation, approval or expenditure records.
He further identified glaring irregularities in the purported correspondence, including the misspelling of the Governor’s surname as “Uba Sai” and discrepancies in its presentation, which cast further doubt on the document’s credibility. The government also raised serious concerns over the apparent reproduction of the Governor’s signature without authorisation.
“The Kaduna State Government categorically disowns this document. Governor Uba Sani neither authored nor authorised the purported letter, and no N2.3 trillion was budgeted, approved or released for the presidential campaign flag-off. The allegation is entirely fictitious and represents a deliberate attempt to mislead the public,” Maiyaki stated.
The Commissioner emphasised that since assuming office on May 29, 2023, Governor Uba Sani has demonstrated a consistent commitment to fiscal discipline, transparency, accountability and the judicious management of public resources, prioritising investments in security, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture and social protection.
He noted that the administration’s financial management philosophy is reflected in its extensive infrastructure programme, increased agricultural investment, rehabilitation of public institutions, settlement of inherited pension liabilities and expansion of social protection interventions aimed at improving the welfare of Kaduna citizens.
Maiyaki expressed concern over what he described as an emerging pattern of coordinated misinformation intended to discredit the Governor and his administration ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning that the deliberate fabrication of official correspondence is criminal and punishable.
“Political competition must be conducted within the bounds of truth, decency and the law. The fabrication of government correspondence and circulation of false financial claims cannot be justified as legitimate political criticism. Those seeking to hold government accountable must do so through credible evidence, not manufactured documents,” he stressed.
The Commissioner disclosed that steps were being taken to establish the origin of the purported letter and called on relevant security and investigative agencies to examine the document, take steps to bring to justice for offences involving forgery or impersonation, and take appropriate action against anyone found culpable in accordance with the law.
He urged members of the public and media organisations to exercise caution in circulating unverified documents, emphasising that allegations concerning public expenditure should be subjected to proper scrutiny and verification before publication.
Maiyaki reaffirmed that Governor Uba Sani remains focused on consolidating peace, strengthening public institutions, accelerating infrastructure development and improving citizens’ welfare, stressing that the administration would not be distracted from its commitment to prudent financial management, transparent governance and sustainable development.
