Washington Mystics head coach Sydney Johnson had to watch the end of Saturday night’s game against the Atlanta Dream from the locker room.

With about four minutes left in the third quarter, Dream forward Angel Reese drove the lane and went up for a layup on a fast break. She was contacted by Mystics guard Alicia Florez Getino, who was assessed a foul.

During the break for the whistle, Johnson started arguing with the official. He had to be held back by his assistant coaches, but he kept going toward the officials, making sure he got his money’s worth in the argument.

Johnson was then given two technical fouls for his actions and was promptly ejected from the game.

That only added fuel to the fire, and the head coach continued scolding the referees. It got to the point where even some of his own players were trying to calm him down.

This escalated until three officers working security for the game helped to usher him toward the locker room. They initially physically led him to the locker room, but let him go, and he continued on to the locker room, ending his night.

Washington got blown out. The Dream won 109-77. Reese finished the game with 18 points and 17 rebounds.

The Mystics fell to 4-5 on the season; Atlanta moved to 7-3. Washington will now turn its attention to a home game against the Indiana Fever on Monday.

The biggest question now is whether Johnson will coach that matchup or if the WNBA will impose a suspension for his actions.
