Myisha Hines-Allen is heading into coaching. The former Indiana Fever forward announced that she has joined the Monmouth women’s basketball staff as an assistant, giving the veteran a new opportunity in her home state of New Jersey.

The move comes after Hines-Allen completed her ninth WNBA season. She spent the 2026 campaign with Indiana and played a bigger role during the playoffs, averaging 7.0 points and 8.5 rebounds in the Fever’s three-game first-round series against the Las Vegas Aces.

Hines-Allen’s experience gives her plenty to share with college players. She has spent nearly a decade competing against top professional talent, navigated multiple roles and learned what it takes to contribute in a championship environment.

She also knows what it is like to reach the top of the sport. Hines-Allen won a WNBA championship with the Washington Mystics in 2019 and earned All-WNBA Second Team honors in 2020, when she also emerged as a top-10 candidate in the league’s MVP race.

From player to teacher

Hines-Allen’s decision is a natural step for a veteran who has seen the game from several angles. Her playing career has included stretches as a starter, a reserve and a key frontcourt contributor in high-pressure moments. At Monmouth, she will have the chance to turn those lessons into guidance for players still developing their games.

The timing is notable because Hines-Allen’s WNBA future has not been decided. She is an unrestricted free agent this offseason, and her coaching appointment does not by itself mean she is retiring or closing the door on playing. No decision about her next playing contract has been announced.

That distinction matters. Coaching gives Hines-Allen another way to stay involved in basketball, while free agency leaves her professional options open. She can take on the Monmouth role and still evaluate what comes next in the WNBA.

A connection that goes beyond the season

Hines-Allen’s return to New Jersey gives the appointment a personal dimension. She is not just stepping into a new role; she is bringing her professional experience back to the state where she grew up.

For Monmouth, adding a coach with a championship ring and years of WNBA experience offers a valuable perspective for its players. For Hines-Allen, it is a chance to begin a new part of her basketball life without needing to leave the game behind.

Her next season may look different from the last nine, but the sport remains at the center of it. Whether she returns to the court as a player, continues building her coaching experience or eventually does both, Hines-Allen has opened a new door in a familiar place.
