MK Dons Fans Verdict: A Five-Star Away Day

· · 6 min read

You really do have to give credit to Leam Richardson. Our main bug bear – or mine at least – in the back end of last season was his seeming refusal to try and score goals and win games. It was a snoozefest watching Reading play football for a very long time.

However, this season, we look like scoring nearly every time we attack. MK Dons were poor on Saturday, of course they were. But how many times since being relegated to League One have we left games thinking we only needed to play at half our potential and we would’ve got a result?

You still have to do the business and put the ball in the net. Which we did on Saturday, with great ease.

If we can continue performances like this on the road, coupled with our strong home form, we’re in for an exciting season. Here’s how the fans reacted to the game…

Honestly, it’s really not that often you score five goals in any game, let alone away from home. As I mentioned previously, to go from no shots on target at Doncaster Rovers in April to scoring five at MK Dons – in the space of five months – is pretty impressive stuff.

Yes, we were a little bit open, and could’ve conceded more than just the one if were playing a better team, but you can’t moan too much with a 5-1 win on the road…

✋🏼Five star day out in MK yesterday. There is so much to like about this squad.

Kyreece completely unplayable, his pace causes defenders so much trouble – what a signing.

On to Wigan. 📈#readingfcpic.twitter.com/OICx0wWdvJ

Superb day – not often we get to enjoy five (well, we celebrated six in the end) goals away from home.#readingfcpic.twitter.com/bm6QP1Qiq2

MK Dons 1 Reading 5

Superb win, great team performance against an albeit poor MK Dons side. Kyreece Lisbie is something special – what a signing #readingfcpic.twitter.com/d50DYwiORS

When club football is like this there’s nothing better is there

5-1 away win, yes please thank you very much

Up that ding #readingfc

Again, the only possible negative you can draw from today is just how terrible MK Dons were.

Winning 5-1 away from home in the league is never a bad result – especially when you’re missing two standout players.

Happy days. #readingfc

5! UP THE DING! 🛎️🔵⚪️🔵 #readingfc#jacobbrown#stadiummk#upthedingpic.twitter.com/MwspX8At5a

Well, we’ve had worse (away) days…

Crazy high-line played by MK Dons against the pace of Lisbie.

Up the 5 goal Royals. #readingfcpic.twitter.com/lpwNWMdI7e

I was wondering where the goals were going to come from and I just found out- Lane, Brown and Kyreese Lisbie. That was a needed feel good win!

The Chelsea U21’s game is a great chance for players to grab Leam’s attention. Let’s keep on improving. UP THE 5-1 DING🔵⚪️ #readingfc

What a player. In general play I actually think it was one of his more ineffective games; in the few times he got his man one-on-one he didn’t really cause that much trouble. But playing the kind of line MK Dons did against a man with the pace of Lisbie is suicide.

All three of his goals (although I’m pretty sure the first has gone down as an own goal) came from us winning the ball and, within two or three, passes Lisbie being through on goal.

We knew about his raw speed and ability to take players on. If he can continue adding this kind of end product then I’m afraid to say he won’t be playing in blue and white hoops for much longer…

Brilliant showing today. Does Lisbie start becoming as important as Marriott for any promotion push? 👀 #readingfc

Lisbie surely is one of the transfers of the century for us? So so good and looks threatening on every attack. #readingfc

Let’s be honest, as an entity, away days haven’t been that enjoyable for us in recent years, so you have to enjoy days like Saturday.

A loud and large away following and five goals to celebrate (plus home goal celebration we joined in with) is a lovely combination.

I had concerns beginning to creep in about whether we were able to put in the away performances to back up our strong start at home, and while there are still improvements to be made, a 5-1 win is just what the doctor ordered.

Very enjoyable away day! #readingfcpic.twitter.com/AYHQ1sVW8g

What a great away day that was. Similar trip to Wigan will do nicely. #Readingfc

Back home after a very enjoyable first away win of the season, love how we didn’t settle for the lead and kept on going for more goals. Lisbie unreal today, great by Reid and Stokes too, they pass the test! No weak links today! Well done lads! 💪🏼 #readingfchttps://t.co/bzYBy47IJb

That’s how you get your first away league win of the season! Great result. #readingfchttps://t.co/jhqIg9NIYL

Haha we are absolutely mocking them now. Just constantly doing their goal music and dance.
One of the best away games.#ReadingFC

— Reading FC 🧱 (@bluewhitewall) October 10, 2026

There isn’t much more I need or have to say. If I put my idealistic, perfectionist hat on for just one moment, then yes, if we’d come up against a better side, I doubt we’d have conceded just the one goal.

But I also think we would’ve still scored goals, which is a really nice feeling. We have a way of playing, with attacking players on form, and are without the supremely talented George Earthy and the inevitable Jack Marriott. It’s not bad going at all.

Onwards to Wigan.
