Missing NYSC Member Found Dead in Bayelsa, Police Probe Circumstances

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member serving in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Okebaram Stanley Chimaroke, has reportedly been found dead under circumstances that remain unclear.

Chimaroke, a graduate of Civil Engineering from the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, was also a former President of the institution’s Students’ Union Government (SUG).

According to information circulating among colleagues and associates, his lifeless body was allegedly recovered from a body of water in Nembe after he was reportedly attacked by yet-to-be-identified assailants.

The discovery comes days after the Bayelsa State Police Command launched a search operation following reports of his disappearance.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, police sources disclosed that the missing person’s report was lodged at about 8:40 p.m. on July 25, 2026, by fellow corps member Aribisola Bisi Isaac, who was accompanied by Adeola Marvelous.

The report indicated that the Local Government Inspector informed them that the 27-year-old corps member, who was posted to serve in Nembe Creek, was last seen at about 8:00 p.m. on July 24.

Police sources said repeated attempts to reach him through his mobile phone numbers proved unsuccessful, raising concerns about his safety.

Following the report, police operatives were deployed to the creek community, located about 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Headquarters, to begin search and investigation efforts.

At the time the search commenced, the police said efforts were ongoing to locate the missing corps member and determine the circumstances surrounding his disappearance.

As of the time of filing this report, the Bayelsa State Police Command had not officially confirmed the reported recovery of Chimaroke’s body or disclosed the exact circumstances surrounding his death. An official statement from the authorities is still being awaited as investigations continue.
