Minnesota Vikings QB Kyler Murray Handed Major Week 1 Prediction
The Minnesota Vikings are set to get their first regular season look at new starting quarterback Kyler Murray on Sunday afternoon at home against the Green Bay Packers.
Murray, who was signed to a one-year deal in free agency following his release from the Arizona Cardinals, won the starting job over J.J. McCarthy during training camp and preseason action. There are many who feel that he will be the missing piece under center the Vikings need to get back into playoff contention.
During his tenure with the Cardinals, Murray showed flashes of superstar potential. Unfortunately, those flashes never turned into consistency.
Since being drafted with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Murray has played in 87 games. He has completed 67.1 percent of his career pass attempts for 20,460 yards, 121 touchdowns, and 60 interceptions, while also running for 3,193 yards and 32 touchdowns.
Ahead of this week’s game, Murray and the Minnesota offense have been handed a major prediction.
Minnesota Vikings QB Kyler Murray Gets Major Prediction for Week 1
NFL Network analyst Daniel Jeremiah is expecting big things from the Vikings’ offense right off the bat. Murray is a big part of that belief.
“My gut, and this is not from talking to Kevin or anybody there, but my gut says [Murray is] just gonna let it rip,” Jeremiah said. “There’s gonna be no tiptoeing into this whole thing. You’re gonna see them taking some shots.”
Jeremiah continued on, revealing why Murray is a big factor in his prediction.
“You can get deep off play action for two reasons. No. 1, Kyler’s got a cannon, and No. 2, give him a little more space to be able to see and attack with Justin Jefferson downfield and all their other assortment of weapons that they possess.”
Along with a much-improved passing game, Jeremiah believes that Murray will use his dual-threat ability in his Minnesota debut.
“I think you’ll see Kyler on the move,” Jeremiah added. “I think it’s a new toy for Kevin to play with. He hasn’t had a guy like this who can move around as he can. So I think you just unload it. I don’t think it’s a real conservative, cautious approach. I think they come out slinging.”
Only time will tell whether or not this prediction ends up being correct. Murray has a chance to carve out a long-term spot with the Vikings. That quest will begin in under 24 hours against the Packers in an NFC North rivalry matchup.
