Minnesota Vikings Predicted to Shake Up Quarterback Situation Again
The Minnesota Vikings have gone through a lot of changes at the quarterback position over the last couple of years.
A couple of years back, the Vikings had Kirk Cousins leading the charge under center. After deciding to let him walk, they brought in Sam Darnold who had a fantastic season. Unfortunately, the team decided to let him walk last offseason to give J.J. McCarthy a chance.
Darnold went on to win a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks. On the flip side, Minnesota struggled with McCarthy leading the way. Kevin O’Connell and company decided another change was necessary and signed Kyler Murray to be their starter this season.
During Week 1 action against the Green Bay Packers, Murray went down with a concussion in the first quarter. That led to Carson Wentz taking over as the starter and leading the Vikings to an improbable win. Will Murray end up being the guy long-term or could Minnesota consider changing up the quarterback once again?
Keeping all of that in mind, a new prediction has been made that would see the Vikings doing just that.
Minnesota Vikings Predicted to Land New Quarterback After 2026 Season
Tankathon’s latest mock draft has Minnesota picking at No. 18 overall in the first round of the 2027 NFL Draft. With that selection, they have predicted the Vikings to take Miami Hurricanes standout quarterback Darian Mensah.
Mensah has gotten off to a fast start this season. In his first year with Miami following his transfer from Duke, Mensah has completed 91.1 percent of his 45 pass attempts for 653 yards, eight touchdowns, and no interceptions. Last season with the Blue Devils, he threw for 3,973 yards, 34 touchdowns, and just six interceptions, while completing 66.8 percent of his passes.
Standing in at 6-foot-3 and 205 pounds, Mensah’s performance this season has seen him rising up draft boards. If he’s available when the Vikings are on the clock in the first round, it would be difficult to pass on him.
Murray is capable of being a long-term option for Minnesota. McCarthy could still factor into the equation as well. However, it’s clear that the franchise is not sold on either of those two quarterback options.
It’s still way too early to know where Minnesota will be picking in the 2027 draft. No one knows where Mensah will end up being selected in the draft either. But, it’s an intriguing idea that could make a lot of sense for a team that has badly needed consistent quarterback play.
