Milwaukee Bucks trade Giannis Antetokounmpo to Miami Heat, per report

The Milwaukee Bucks are trading superstar forward Giannis Antetokounmpo and forward Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported June 22. 

The Bucks are getting Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakučionis, three first-round picks that include the No. 13 overall selection in the 2026 NBA Draft, one pick swap, and one second-round pick from the Heat in return. 

The Heat are also shipping the Bucks two unprotected first-round selections (2031, 2033), a 2030 pick swap and a 2033 second-round pick, Charania reported.

The trade didn’t involve a third team, according to the report.

The draft is June 23-24 in Brooklyn, N.Y.

A two-time NBA MVP, Antetokounmpo, 31, averaged 27.6 points and 9.8 rebounds during the 2025-26 season. He played a career-low 36 games in his 13th and final season in Milwaukee, where his career began in 2013.

The move keeps one of the NBA’s best players in the Eastern Conference as the Heat are now a playoff contender that’ll look to challenge the now-defending NBA champion New York Knicks. 

Antetokounmpo probably wasn’t very surprised, having posted what looked like a farewell message on X on Monday, June 22.

He wrote, “GOD, I trusted you at the beginning, and I will continue to trust you throughout.”

The trade also keeps Antetokounmpo out of the already loaded Western Conference, where the Phoenix Suns were swept in the first round by the top overall seed, the Oklahoma City Thunder, after winning 45 games. 

Antetokounmpo led the Bucks past the Suns in the 2021 NBA Finals. The 10-time All-Star won Finals MVP after scoring 50 points in the Game 6 clincher in Milwaukee.

The Celtics were the only other team in deep negotiations with the Bucks.
