Milwaukee Brewers: Jackson Chourio makes even more MLB postseason history with Game 2 walk-off

· · 2 min read

The Milwaukee Brewers are just one game away from ending their series against the San Diego Padres following their incredible and dramatic comeback victory in Game Two. Trailing 3-2 in the bottom of the ninth, they faced the almost impossible task of tying or winning the game against Mason Miller, who is considered to be the best closer in the game.

And they did it.

In the regular season, Miller led the National League with 38 saves while posting a 1.67 ERA. Yet, the Brewers were able to score two runs in a way that just about every child who grows up watching baseball imagines.

So many readers may have imagined themselves in this scenario: bottom of the ninth, bases loaded, two outs. Trailing in the game and the count is now full. Now, some may end their daydream with a long bomb to the outfield for a walk-off grand slam.

That was not what Brewers star Jackson Chourio did, but his two-RBI single up the middle was just as effective in brining home the Game Two victory.

And in doing so, Chourio became just the second player in MLB postseason history to hit a walk-off game-winner with his team trailing against a reliever who led their league in saves. The first was Kirk Gibson off of Dennis Eckersley in 1988:

The two RBI in Game Two gave Chourio 15 postseason RBI thus far in his career. He now ranks second behind just Andruw Jones (17) for the most postseason RBI before turning the age of 23.

Of course, this is nothing new for Brewers fans, who have seen Chourio elevate himself in every postseason series that he has played. What makes it special, though, is that he is still so young and is under contract with Milwaukee for a very long time.

Chourio also had the best regular season of his career despite missing the first month due to a hairline fracture in his hand. He slashed a career-best .291/.351/.487 with 25 home runs, 75 RBI, and 23 stolen bases.
