A pregame military helicopter flyover sparked concern when fireworks exploded dangerously close to an aircraft before the Seattle Seahawks faced the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football.

The incident occurred at Seattle’s Lumen Field on Monday, November 2, as four U.S. Army helicopters flew over the stadium during the national anthem, the New York Post reported on Tuesday, November 3.

According to the report, three helicopters had already cleared the stadium when fireworks began exploding near the fourth aircraft, which was still flying overhead.

Video footage shared on social media showed fireworks bursting close to the helicopter as it passed above the stadium. Gasps could be heard from some of the approximately 70,000 fans watching below, per the report.

Despite the close call, the helicopter continued flying and followed the other aircraft away from the stadium.

The Monday Night Football footage quickly drew reactions from NFL fans, with several questioning how the fireworks display had been coordinated with the military flyover.

“That firework timing was actually dangerous af, how did they coordinate that without crashing?” one person wrote on X.

“Somebody in the control room is having the worst Monday night of their life,” another commented.

One person joked about Seattle quarterback Sam Darnold‘s performance during the game, writing on X, “Fireworks are more accurate than Darnold tonight!”

The Seahawks went on to lose 34-17 to the Bears, dropping their record to 4-4, according to the team’s official website.

According to CHGO, Chicago quarterback Caleb Williams threw for 247 yards and one touchdown, while running back D’Andre Swift scored three rushing touchdowns.

The victory improved Chicago’s record to 6-2, per the New York Post, keeping the Bears in contention near the top of the NFC North standings.

Seattle will look to bounce back against the Arizona Cardinals in Week 9, while Chicago will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
