Mike Singletary: I see a lot of Patrick Mahomes in Caleb Williams
The Bears have had a laundry list of legendary linebackers over the course of their franchise’s history. Chief among them is Mike Singletary, the 10-time Pro Bowler who’s not only one of the best linebackers in Chicago’s history, but in the NFL’s history.
Singletary recently appeared on Up & Adams with Kay Adams, who asked Samurai Mike the question: if you could conduct a redraft of the entire NFL, which player would you select first overall? Singletary’s choice was Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, though he was quick to add that Bears quarterback Caleb Williams was in that conversation.
Patrick Mahomes is unquestionably the best player in the NFL 👀

For what it’s worth, you can actually conduct a full redraft of the entire NFL yourself for free using Pro Football Network’s NFL Ultimate Redraft Simulator, in which Williams is the No. 8-ranked player overall in a hypothetical NFL redraft.
Singletary decidedly chose Mahomes as his No. 1 pick, citing his leadership abilities and reliability as a steady force through the Chiefs’ ups and downs.
“The kid in Chicago is not far behind,” Singletary added after stating his case. Presumably, this is speaking towards Williams’ leadership style and how the team rallies around him, seeing as though that was Singletary’s main case towards selecting Mahomes.
Williams is coming off a step up in production in 2025 compared to his rookie season with the Bears. With head coach Ben Johnson at the helm, the 2024 No. 1 overall pick saw improves in passing yards, passing touchdowns, passer rating, net yards per passing attempt, game-winning drives, fourth-quarter comebacks, and sack avoidance percentage.
Though he still has some improving to do — his completion percentage being chief among them — it’s clear the Bears have a talented young quarterback on their hands. It appears that Samurai Mike has identified himself as a believer.
