Michigan State names Jon Palumbo interim athletic director

Michigan State University on Friday named Jon Palumbo as its interim athletic director.

Palumbo, whose appointment is immediate, follows J Batt, who has been named athletic director at Kentucky.

“Jon has been an integral part of the innovation of MSU Athletics over the past year, and I have every confidence in his ability to maintain its positive trajectory as interim athletic director,” MSU President Kevin M. Guskiewicz said in a statement announcing the appointment. “This will be a seamless transition for MSU Athletics, and we look forward to a successful start of the upcoming season for our programs and student-athletes.”

Palumbo has been MSU’s executive deputy athletics director and chief operating officer. He is also the CEO of Spartan Ventures. He’ll remain in the role with Spartan Ventures, according to the release.
