Micah Parsons becomes flashpoint in Packers-Bears rivalry with controversial NFL Top 100 call

· · 2 min read

The Green Bay Packers and Micah Parsons became part of the NFL Top 100 conversation before the rankings were even released.

One of the favorite traditions of the offseason is seeing where players rank their peers, and while there are usually a few surprises, the list often lines up closely with how fans view the league’s stars. This year, the biggest debate centers on who will claim the No. 1 spot, and Parsons offered an answer that could leave some Packers supporters unhappy.

Unlike several players who used the opportunity to praise a teammate, Micah Parsons looked outside his own locker room and pointed to “Iceman,” the nickname of Caleb Williams. That pick is unlikely to go over well with fans of the Packers, considering the long-standing rivalry and bad blood between Green Bay and the Chicago Bears.

Parsons is certainly aware of that rivalry, but his response appears to be driven more by his genuine opinion than any desire to promote a teammate or throw support behind another well-known player around the league. Instead, Parsons seemed content to give an honest answer in the moment, regardless of how fans might react.

Williams did take a step forward in his second season, even if some believe his production could have looked stronger with more consistent support from the Bears coaching staff and roster around him. Even though that progress came earlier in the year, Cheeseheads have not forgotten how Chicago played a role in keeping their team from advancing deeper into the postseason, which continues to fuel the rivalry between the two franchises.

Williams is likely riding high after being named the cover athlete for Madden 27, a major milestone early in his career, and now adding further attention after receiving praise from a rival player.

Still, attention will be firmly locked in when the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears meet twice during the regular season, with the possibility of an even bigger showdown if the two rivals cross paths again in the playoffs.
