Miami, Montreal Drive Key in New Alpine Deal for Colapinto in F1 2027

Alpine Racing has retained Franco Colapinto for 2027 F1 season, as it completes its driver line-up with Pierre Gasly already confirmed to stay.

The driver silly season is nearing its completion as Alpine announces the retention of Colapinto for the 2027 F1 season, thereby retaining the same driver line-up after Gasly was already confirmed to stay early on. After a turbulent start to the Argentine’s stint with the team in 2025, he has cemented his place now.

Solid F1 2026 for Gasly so far

The F1 2026 has been solid one for him so far, as he has already gone past his points tally with 19 midway into the season. He has delivered in races whenever possible and hasn’t been far off from Gasly as such. Even with the older package, the youngster has stayed in the hunt for points.

Alpine sits sixth in the F1 constructors’ championship, with 63 points and are involved in a close battle with Racing Bulls for fifth, who have 66 points. The Mercedes partnership has delivered results as well, even though they have gone from a manufacturer team to a customer outfit.

While Alpine will have a new title partner in the form of Gucci in F1 2027, they will have similar people at the helm of things, whether the management or the drivers – keeping some form of continuity, heading into a new era of the French outfit under the “Gucci” banner.

Colapinto say

“I am very pleased to remain with this team in 2027,” said Colapinto after securing the new deal, ahead of the Italian GP at Monza. “I feel very happy and very settled here and it’s been even better that we have made significant progress this year compared to last.

“We have a lot more milestones to reach and I know the team is working so hard in finding performance and making the car better and better. Our long-term goals are obvious – to compete and win – and I am grateful to the team, Flavio and Steve, for the trust placed in me to be one of its drivers going into the future. I’m looking forward to seeing how everything plays out and focusing on my job on-track first and foremost.”

Miami, Montreal did it for Colapinto

At the same time, Alpine F1 executive Flavio Briatore, highlighted his drives in Miami and Montreal, which helped them finalise Colapinto for the 2027 season. He finished seventh and sixth, respectively in those two races. “We are very happy to confirm our driver line-up for 2027 with Franco staying as a race driver alongside Pierre,” he said.

“For me, having consistency is very important. We are now settled from a driver point of view and I have said many times that, while this is an important piece of the puzzle, the most significant we have to get right is designing and building a fast race car which absolutely remains our number one priority.

“We have seen Franco truly grow and mature into a great driver this year. His results in Miami and Montreal especially confirmed what I already knew: Franco belongs in Formula One and he belongs at this team. I expect both Franco, and Pierre, to continue doing a fantastic job on track and for the entire team to push relentlessly until we are fighting, and winning, at the front end of this sport.”
