The LeBron James free agency watch was put on high alert late Tuesday July 21 when the Miami Heat‘s social media department briefly posted a video announcing the team was preparing for an introductory press conference.

“LeBron James Introductory Press Conference” set for “July 27, 2026” was posted by the Heat’s YouTube account, an indication the team is preparing for a big announcement shortly and will be making James available to the media next week.

But a Heat spokesperson told the Miami Herald the video was “mistakenly made public” by the team’s social media department for “the possibility of James eventually deciding to join the Heat this offseason.”

The leak, of course, went viral and ratcheted up the LeBron Watch, already at fever pitch, to another level.

The practice of preparing for such a press conference is typical. Whatever team James signs with — his choices appear to have come down to the Heat, Cleveland Cavaliers, Philadelphia 76ers and Golden State Warriors — will be scrambling to set up a press conference.

James, 41, remains uncommitted, at least publicly, three weeks into free agency. He agent, Rich Paul, CEO of Klutch Sports, said Monday, “It could be 48 seconds, it could be 48 minutes, I don’t know. Again, you can’t make somebody know something they don’t know.”

Some have speculated James was pretty sure where he was signing a week ago but changed his mind and is unsure once again.
